July 2002: Construction of Manufacturing & Design Center Completed

Construction of SAMCO’s new Manufacturing & Design Center began in March 2002, and was completed in July 2002.  An opening ceremony for the new facility was held on July 30, 2002.  The Manufacturing & Design Center provides a centralized facility for SAMCO’s manufacturing, design, and research operations, which previously were housed in separate facilities.  The new facility is strategically located in the center of Kyoto’s high tech business district, and is adjacent to the Kyoto Trade Fair Center.

The SAMCO logo was installed on the building in the beginning of June, and at present almost all of the finishing touches are in place on the building exterior.  In late July, the clean room construction work was completed, and as planned SAMCO’s manufacturing, purchasing, and design organizations were relocated to their offices in the new facility.

With the completion of the Manufacturing & Design Center, SAMCO now has an infrastructure that will support expansion of annual manufacturing volume to a level of approximately 12 billion yen.

June 2002: Japan's Minister of Science and Technology Tours SAMCO Facilities

On June 13, 2002, Japan’s Minister of Science and Technology (Mr. Koji Omi) paid a visit to a number of technology research and development facilities in Kyoto, including high-tech companies and Kyoto University.  During his tour, Mr. Omi stopped by Samco International, and he was given a brief introduction to Samco’s ICP etching and plasma cleaning systems.

The primary purpose of Mr. Omi’s visit to Kyoto was to attend the 1st Conference for the Promotion of Industry-University-Government Cooperation.  During his visit, he wanted to take a tour of the high-tech companies in Kyoto that are participating in the “Intellectual Cluster Project” in cooperation with Kyoto University. During his visit to Samco, Mr. Omi asked questions about Samco’s cooperative efforts with universities, and he enthusiastically discussed technology issues with Samco’s employees.  At the end of his visit, he praised Samco as an “exciting company with a bright future”.
